Breathless and fervid

I'm part of the Lambily.  Yes indeed, I'm a true, OG Mariah Carey fan.  MC penned the soundtrack of my formative years (and maybe yours) and continues to be my "Top Played" artist.

This week was the 25th anniversary of her album Butterfly.  This was her gorgeous ode to emancipating herself of her controlling marriage and several of her sultry tracks allude to her sexy, secret relationship with A-Rod in the late 90's.

A deep cut on this album is one of my all time favorites.  It's called Fourth of July  (another nod to her independence) and it describes watching fireworks with a lusty lover.  It is descriptively sensual, wonderfully magical and absolutely nostalgic for me.

In 2005, I was headed to see fireworks on the Fourth of July with a boy I'd barely started dating, but knew he was going to be around for a while.  (Hint: It was Nate and he's still around.:)

Mariah tells our story here in Fourth of July:

"So starry eyed (So starry eyed)

On the flowery hillside

Breathless and fervid

Amid the dandelions

As it swept over me (Swept over me)

Like the wind through the trees

I felt you sigh with a sweet intensity and baby

Then you put your hand in mine (Your hand in mine)

And we floated away

Delicately lay entwined"

BREATHLESS and FERVID!  Gah.  I love this imagery.  Every inch of this song still feels like an obituary to every other man I'd ever dated before Nate.

I'll forever be grateful to artists who have the ability to write lyrics that immediately bring me back to a place in time I loved so much.

So what are your songs?  Which song brings you to your knees with heartbreak, even years after your heart has mended?  Which one do you play when you want comfort, when you want to feel sexy or when you want to remember the tender beginning of your relationship?

Sending you love and nostalgia this weekend!

Celeste
