What is your time worth?

Let's solve time equality together!

All time is created equal.  Every single human, animal and grain of sand on this planet gets 24 hours in one day.  Literally the same amount of seconds until that sun hits the starting gate again.

This ties into last week's conversation about invisible work because much of the issue with women taking on the majority of the invisible load is that we don't consider time equality.  “Demanding time equality and time choice is a message the women’s movement missed, and it’s about time, pardon the pun, we have a cultural recognition that all time is created equal,” Eve Rodsky (2019) says in her book, Fair Play.

Listen to how Rodsky describes her finding in an interview with Instyle. "Men, women, and society view men's time as finite like diamonds and women's time as infinite like sand. Look at equal pay. Women are not paid the same for the exact same work. I started interviewing women and men in the same jobs, from shipping supervisors to pediatricians to colorectal surgeons. I'd ask the men, "Why is your wife still the one getting the phone calls in the middle of the day from school if your kids are sick? Why is she still making the school lunches? Why is she registering the school forms?" They’d often say, "I don't have time. I’m just too busy.” And women were saying, "I find the time." Unless you're Albert Einstein and you can somehow mess with the space-time continuum, there really is no way to find time. That's my core insight."

So, the first step in finding time equality is to sit down with your partner to really discuss how each of you spend the time outside of paid labor.  Discuss how each of your minutes outside of paid labor are valued the same.

When time is viewed with more equality, labor can start to shift too.  And when the responsibilities are shifted more equitably, all of a sudden arousal becomes easier to access.  We know that responsibility is the biggest killer of arousal.  So therefore a more partnered approach to invisible labor creates creative room for eroticism to show up.

Did you know that I really work on taking my own advice about valuing my time more appropriately?  Yes indeed.  I recently looked at my calendar and noticed that my schedule is getting packed and my established clients were having a hard time getting their sessions into my schedule.  So I'm retiring my Complimentary 30 Minute Discovery Calls and leveling up. I'm now offering 30 Minute Discovery Calls for $30.  These cost effective calls will be a place for you to ask your tough sex questions and for me to offer you suggestions and resources you may be needing.  It is also a beautiful way for us to get a feel of whether or not we are a good fit for moving forward with sexual health consulting sessions.

Have some questions or need some direction in your sex life?  Schedule a 30 Minute Discovery Call and get your summer off right!

(And P.S. Let this be the push you need to ask for the raise, ask for more help, or ask for more rest...if I did it, you can too.  I promise you are worth it.)
