The day after check in…
How are you, really?
Just checking in with all of y’all…those who slept on an air mattress at your aunties house. Those who met your partner’s parents for the first time and those of you who are without a partner for the first time in a long time…how are y’all?
How are you all of you who have started intentional eating this year? How did you handle Thanksgiving where you had to deal with uneducated fatphobic comments?
And you…the ones who have families that you only get to see once in a while? Long enough that it’s startling and sad to see your parents age and become so much less independent between visits. You okay?
What about y’all over there? The ones who have to work on Thanksgiving, in healthcare or other workplaces that are deemed necessary to be open. How are you doing? Did anyone make you a plate?
Oh! And I didn’t forget you…those of you who are navigating tough stuff alone and don’t have family members safe enough to share your hard things with so you smile and eat stuffing and act like everything is fine. I see you. I know life is not fine. (But you? You will be okay…I promise.)
So, just checking in with you. Because I love you. I really do. And if you have words you just want to dump in an email to me just to get it off your chest about your Thanksgiving , then go right ahead and punch reply.
Your stories and stuff are always safe with me.
Sending you lots of love and gratitude.
