Meet my hermit crab, Snappy

This is my hermit crab Snappy. He is a coenobita clypeatus (or Caribbean Crab) who is about 3 years old. His crabitat partner Gracie has passed on to the great Ocean in the Sky, so we are going to find him a new crab roomie soon. But other than that, he's a happy little guy.

Here's a recent photoshoot of us. (For those crab parents out there who are wondering, I only handle Snappy when I'm cleaning his crabitat or in emergencies. I'm well aware that they are "hands off" pets. Don't @ me.)

I like changing up his environment for enrichment. I like seeing what food he loves (corn chips, stuck in the dirt straight up). I like hearing him click around his crabitat at night. I'm a group member of "Hermit Crab Owners" on Facebook. You may remember that I gave him mouth to shell resuscitation when he got too cold in the Texas Snowmageddon in Feb.

I love Snappy. A lot. He brings me great joy.

I truly have nothing poetic to say except this: There's things in life that help you feel ridiculously happy. These things may seem silly as hell to other people.

Do that shit anyway.

With love,

Celeste and Snappy

P.S. When Gracie passed, Nate did not laugh at my tears, but instead crafted this beautiful hermit crab coffin. Find yourself a partner like that. ;)
