This is my husband in a wig
Meet my husband, Nate.
Here's a few interesting notes to help you get to know him.
- Before going to med school, Nate was a jazz trombone major at the University of North Texas. (He's a breathtakingly good musician.) There is music playing in our house 97.4% of the time.
- In the picture above, he is on a zoom call for work. It was wig day. Obviously. He won the prize for best wig. Obviously.
- He loves dogs. Probably more than you can imagine. We have always named our dogs after musicians. (Stevie Ray, Norah Jones and Kai Winding)
- This past weekend, he said something so hilarious I wheeze laughed for 4 minutes straight. I cannot remember what it was about, but I do remember how proud he was to make me laugh so hard. It is literally his only goal in life.
- We both love Halloween and we will probably dress up for Halloween long after our kids are grown.
- He calls my cold feet "The Dead Things."
- When I am frustrated at him, I call him "NATHAN!" and it makes him laugh. Which makes me laugh.
- When I mentioned I thought it would be fun to make a stock tank pool for the girls in our backyard, he had it purchased and built within 48 hours. Complete with chlorine, a pool pump and pool noodles.
- In our house, he is known as the "Fun Czar." He is the Minister of Merriment and the President of Party. (Have you guessed that he's an Enneagram 7 yet?)
- On the list of important things in a man I would marry, these three were at the very top:
1. kind
2. smart
3. funny
Nate checks all three. He is, to his core, a very kind man. I don't think you can go into healthcare without this kind of heart. And then he's also smart and funny. (Honestly, it's hard to be funny without being pretty damn smart, so those two went hand in hand.) It is with great pleasure that I get to also be a co-parent with him. Our girls are just so lucky to have a kind, smart and funny human like Nate in their lives. And I get to witness the magic of his fathering and be the recipient of his love.
And that is something worth celebrating. Happy Father's Day Nate!
He always beats me at Mario Cart. I don't even get pity wins.
Picking out the perfect stock tank for our backyard oasis.
A very flattering picture of us in Las Vegas.

Goose, it's time to buzz the tower.
Community Spotlight
Here is an organization that you will want to check out. The Re-Birth Equality Alliance is a non-profit whose objective is to achieve birth justice for marginalized communities in Texas. Did you know that Black women maintain the highest rate of maternal death? Re-Birth Equality works to change health outcomes for marginalized communities by providing free sex education, mobile mental health clinics and monthly community supportive gatherings. If this is a lane that you want to support as you continue your anti-racist work, you can donate at their website or get involved in volunteerism.
(I was personally inspired by simply reading the about section of the founders. These women are badass.)
