Are You Having "Oh! Holy Nights!?"

What are you hoping for?

I’m excellent at hoping.

I’m a natural hoper.  I think an element of hope is necessary to live a positive, fulfilling life.

Without it we are grey, listless beings, never striving for more.    Hope gives us spark, a twinge of understanding what might be.  What could be…

My absolute favorite Christmas song lyric of all time is, “O Holy Night” (sung BEST by the tremendously talented Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey).

“The thrill of hope

The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn”

"The THRILL of hope!"  Isn't that the most brilliant lyric of all time?

We hope for things that are out of our control.  Hope for a clear MRI.  Hope for no traffic.  Hope for a sunny wedding day.

But we also hope for many things well within our control.  Hope for a good grade.  Hope for a long night of sleep.  Hope for more kissing before the clothes come off.

The one issue that I see with playing a solid hope game is that sometimes hope is all we cling too.  Sometimes hope is all thrill and no work

And don’t get me wrong, thrill is GOOD.  Thrill is motivating and exciting

However, ALL thrill without effort equals…disappointment.

The song doesn't say the "well-rested and stagnant" world rejoices.  Nope.  The WEARY world rejoices.  You only grow weary when you are growing and moving.

Recently a client told me that after feeling lost about her low sex drive for years, she started to feel something.

“I’m starting to look into our future and feel hopeful.

She started to feel hopeful for the future because she was taking action toward making her future better.  This, for me, is one of the best parts of being a sexologist.  I get to see people renew hope in the most intimate parts of their life and relationship.

And would you like to know what happened?  She is not only experiencing a higher sex drive, but she had her VERY FIRST ORGASM.  All because she hoped for it which motivated her to work for it.

As we enter into the holiday season, my wish for you is that you feel the thrill.  The excitement of a new and glorious morn.’  But beyond that, my wish for you is that you actually chase down what you hope for.  That the thrill of hope motivates you to take action.  To move.  To change.  To risk. To become vulnerable.

Because the thrill of hope, with action, makes the weary world REJOICE.

So what are you hoping for today?  With action, you too can feel the beauty of a new and glorious morn.'

I’m rooting for you always,

Celeste
