Checkmate, you couldn’t lose.
Here are a few barriers that hold people back from learning more about sex.
You feel like you should already know everything about sex, especially if you have been in a long-term relationship or have been having sex for a long time. Nothing left to learn, right?
You don’t know where to get straightforward accurate and not over the top wildly unrealistic advice.
You are anxious about the content.
If these sound like reasons you don’t embrace more sex education for yourself, let me encourage you in several ways.
I’ve been a parent for 11 years. I continue to read parenting books. I’ve been a runner since grad school. I continue to follow running accounts and read articles about shoes and how to score my next PR. Time doesn’t automatically make you better. Intentional learning does.
I want to validate that it is hard to find accurate, helpful information on sex. But it isn’t impossible. And you are resilient and smart enough to understand when sex information is unhelpful and not credible. You are! I promise. Don’t let the fear of misinformation hold you back from seeking out credible answers to your sex questions.
Yes, you may feel anxious about getting triggered. I get this. Activation is your bodies’ way of trying to keep you safe. So, as you seek out sex information, work toward finding providers who are trauma-informed and understand that everyone comes to the education table with a sexual formation that is unique and often scary.
I’m here to encourage you to continue to seek out your own sex education. It is how you create a sex life and a pleasure experience that is fully your own. And just like learning about cooking or running or finances or parenting…the learning isn’t a one time deal. It is a lifetime of learning.
Time to become the mastermind of your own sex life. You only have a couple of days to sign up for the Sex Ed 101 Workshop Series. Every Monday in April we are covering the sex ed topics in a comprehensive, helpful, affirming AND trauma-informed way. Anatomy, positions, consent, ethics….this is the most comprehensive training I do. It’s all here.
Don’t let your sex life become accidental. Become your own sexual mastermind.
Checkmate, you couldn’t lose.
